Chapters are the cheapest growth in podcasting

Ten minutes of work per episode, and listeners stay to the end.

Ten minutes of work per episode, and listeners stay to the end.

We see the same question from almost every new client, so here is the answer we give on the first call, with the numbers from the shows we make.

What the numbers say

Across eleven shows this year, the episodes people finished were the ones with a clear question, three or four chapters and nothing left in that didn’t answer it. Length mattered less than the edit.

What we do about it

We plan the chapters before the recording, cut to them afterwards, and check the drop-off for every episode in the first week. When a chapter loses people, the next episode changes.
